José Luis Nieto, the Spanish pianist of great international renown, launches his eighth album titled IBERIA, Sketches From Spain, which is sponsored by the International Iberoamerican University (UNINI Puerto Rico), in collaboration with other institutions.
The album is a direct recording from a concert performed by the pianist in Laeiszhalle – Elbphilharmonie de Hamburg (the Elba philharmonic), which interpreted the Suite Iberia from Isaac Albéniz. For Nieto, making a direct recording of the album “is more difficult, but carries with it a more honest challenge.”
Apart from UNINI Mexico, the sponsors for the album include the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO, Spain), The International Iberoamerican University(UNINI Puerto Rico), the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER), the Cadiz Provincial Council and the Excmo. El Gastor City Council.
Nieto states that the Suite Iberia is the “most representative work, not only of our piano repertoire, but the entirety of the Spanish musical heritage.” It is a work that, in the eyes of the pianist, has few quality discographic representations, which poses a challenge for him in order to improve the gap.
On the other hand, José Luis Nieto intends to “provide a new and fresh perspective on the work, differentiating it from other versions.”
José Luis Nieto is a prestigiously renown pianist born in Cadiz (Spain). Nieto studied in the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid (Royal Advanced Conservatory of Music in Madrid) and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, where he was awarded a doctoral degree after apprenticing under the Russian pianist, Victor Merzhanov. He has a busy agenda of concerts which have led him to perform in the most prestigious institutions in Russia, Europe, the Middle East and America, sowing great public and critical hits.
